We're a social enterprise, not a normal shop — there are no shareholders taking a cut. So whatever you spend goes two places at once.

Our story

A bookshop where the people are the point.

Vipa Books has supplied school libraries since 1989. For many years we were part of the Austhos not-for-profit group, whose surpluses supported Australian public hospitals. In 2024 we became a social enterprise in our own right — and today the giving happens in the daily work itself.

Every week we choose, pack and deliver the books that fill Victorian school libraries — work done by a team for whom it means a great deal. Supporting Vipa supports that whole community: the workers, the neighbours near our Montmorency office, and the schools we visit.

We've operated as a social enterprise since 2024, and we're now working toward official certification with Social Traders — Australia's social-enterprise certifier. Our aim: once certified, businesses and councils will be able to meet their social-enterprise spend targets by sponsoring school library stock through Vipa. We're not there yet — but every order, from a library top-up to a sponsored classroom, grows the community around us and gets us closer. You're not just buying a book; you're helping build the thing.
